Namslau Castle

The Namslau Castle ( Zamek w Namysłowie ) is a castle in the west of the city of Namysłów ( Namslau ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . Historically it belonged to the Duchy of Namslau .

history

The complex, which was then made of wood and clay, was first mentioned in 1312. From 1360 it was built with massive brick walls at the behest of the Bohemian ruler Charles IV .

Since 1533 the Namslauer Burglehn belonged to the council of the city of Breslau , which further fortified the castle and built a new wing in the west of the inner courtyard. Shortly afterwards, the outer courtyard was expanded. In 1703 the castle was acquired by the Teutonic Order , who erected a commander in the castle , which belonged to the Bohemian Chamber of Commerce until the secularization in 1810 . After several changes of ownership, the castle came to the Haselbach brewery in Namslau in 1895.

Building

The castle forms part of the city wall protruding in an irregular three-quarter circle. In the Middle Ages, there were probably only battlements and farm buildings on the west and south sides ; to the east, a strong wall barred the castle from the city. The main building of the castle, the so-called "Old Castle", adjoins the north side. A two-story porch served as an entrance hall on the ground floor and as a chapel on the upper floor. In 1534 the gatehouse was built, the lower part of which consists of medieval walls and the upper floor of a half-timbered building from the 18th century.
