The castle Pierregourde (French: Château de Pierregourde ) is the ruins of a hilltop castle on the territory of the municipality Gilhac-et-Bruzac in the French Ardèche , about twelve kilometers south-west of Valence . It was built in the 13th century and destroyed in 1630 at the instigation of Cardinal Richelieu . The castle can be reached from Saint-Laurent-du-Pape via a narrow mountain road; from the parking lot you have to walk two kilometers. From the ruins you have a good view of the Vercors , the Mont Ventoux , the Trois Becs and the valleys of the Eyrieux and the Rhône .
