Burgberg Tower (Bad Soden)

Burgberg Tower

The Burgbergturm , also called Burgwarte , is a lookout tower in Bad Soden am Taunus .

The Burgberg Tower was built in 1900 by the Taunus Club on the castle hill that gave it its name . Similar towers were built by the club in other places at the beginning of the century, such as the Meisterturm or the Herzbergturm . The Burgbergturm was called the watch tower by the Taunus Club . The background to this was the (unproven) assumption that the 180-meter-high hill on which the tower stands was once the site of a castle.

The tower is located in the northeast part of the old spa park . In 1881 the fir forest was laid out below the tower. Until the 1930s, parts of the hill were used as a vineyard.

The tower itself is ten meters high. At the top there is a viewing platform with a 1.30 meter high crenellated crown. The building was fundamentally restored in 1984 and renovated again in 2008. The costs for this amounted to € 190,000, half of which was raised by private donors. A copper plaque on the tower commemorates Medical Councilor Dr. August Haupt (1900–1950).

The tower's small viewing platform is open every Sunday in summer.
