Burgert Brand

Burgert Brand (* 1959 in Swakopmund , South West Africa ) is a Namibian Evangelical Lutheran theologian and since January 18, 2015 Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (DELK) based in Windhoek .

Life

Brand grew up in Tsumeb and studied theology at the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg and at the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen . After Brand held pastoral posts in the Namibian towns of Windhoek and Gobabis , he worked as a pastor in Midrand ( South Africa ) from 1995 . In 2003 he moved to Hermannsburg as a pastor .

Brand is the Church's first native-born bishop.
