The Burggrafenberg is an approximately 283 meter high elevation in the southwest of the city of Wuppertal in the Cronenberg district .
topology
The highest individual collection of Burgholz Forest is with 282.8 meters of central Grafenberg. The name is an etymological evolution of the previous name Castle Mountain grave or Burggrawenberg and goes to a medieval hill fort back.
In the west, at the foot of the elevation, the Wupper runs from north to south. To the northwest, on the other side of the Wuppertal, is the extensive facilities of the Buchenhofen sewage treatment plant . The valley of the Glasbach , a tributary of the Wupper, runs north of Burggrafenberg . The valley of the Burgholzbach , also a tributary of the Wupper, lies in the south of the Burggrafenberg. At the Burgholzbach, which in turn has numerous tributaries, there are remains of proto-industrial water engines such as Nöllenhammer .
The elevation is part of the natural spatial unit Burgholzberge (ordinal number 338.051).
Buildings
The remains of the castle moat ring wall are protected as a ground monument.
Events
As part of a final phase crime , at the end of February / beginning of March 1945, 30 forced laborers were shot by the Gestapo on Burggrafenberg in the Burgholz state forest , see Nazi murders in Burgholz .
