Parish Church of St. Vitus

history

The place was first mentioned in a document around 1025 with a noble seat of a Freisinger ministerial family. The location and the type of building on which the family lived can no longer be researched. The monastery chapter Moosburg owned the manorial power over Burgharting . The church of St. Vitus has always been a branch of the parish of Wambach (near Neufraunhofen ), it was not until 1923 that Burgharting was elevated to a parish.

Parish Church of Saint Vitus

The building was erected around 1724 (visible on the choir arch) in place of a Gothic predecessor by Anton Kogler . The building has a beautifully structured late baroque exterior. The furnishings date from 1724. The ceiling frescoes are by the Wartenberg painter Franz Albert Aiglstorffer , which illustrates the life of the church patron St. Vitus. The high altar is decorated with a picture by Johann Degler depicting the martyrdom of St. Vitus. The almost life-size figures on the high altar are remarkable, especially the depiction of Anna Selbdritt. Not to be missed is the mount of olives in the high altar from 1724, which only exists in a few churches. During Lent, the Mount of Olives play is performed two or three times.
