history

It was built by Johann Arnold Nering from 1690 to 1696 by order of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg . It stood in the cooking garden of the Oberburggrave Ahasverus von Lehndorff , not far from the Königsberg castle pond . The model was the Nieuwe Kerk (The Hague) . Frederick I consecrated the church shortly after he was crowned king on January 23, 1701.

Inside of the castle church with Caspari organ

In accordance with Pietism , the church was kept simple. The wooden vault of the nave was only covered with stucco, only the apses had a star vault. The pulpit was on the long side of the nave, covered like a crown with a richly carved sound cover by Caspar Schreiber . The organ was the work of Johann Josua Mosengel's journeyman Georg Sigismund Caspari (1693–1741), which he built in 1726 under Mosengel's supervision as his "Probstück" (= masterpiece) and which he gave as proof of his ability for the application run by Mosengel served for the title of "Royal Prussian court organ builder". Like many Königsberg organs, the organ was adorned with the Prussian eagle; it is considered the last organ in the East Prussian area to be equipped with a Rückpositiv on the occasion of the new building . The church portal with the allegorical figures of justice, love and mercy was donated by Charles Cabrit and built in 1727.

During the Second World War , the church was badly damaged in the second air raid on Königsberg in 1944 ; the interior burned out completely. The massive walls and tower were demolished by 1969. Today there is a park on the site of the castle church.
