Georg Fritsch

Carl Agathon Georg Fritsch (born May 18, 1890 in Osterode in East Prussia , † July 23, 1955 ) was a German architect and construction clerk.

Life

Georg Fritsch was the son of the high school teacher Carl Fritsch (1854–1929) and his wife Milka, b. Harnoch , daughter of pastor Agathon Harnoch (1837–1905). He first attended high school in Osterode, then Tilsiter Realgymnasium , where he graduated from high school in 1909. From 1909 to 1914 he studied architecture at the TH Danzig , the TH Munich , the TH Dresden and again in Danzig. From October 1914 to February 1915 he took part in the 1st East Prussian Field Artillery Regiment No. 16 in the First World War, after being wounded he was unable to be used in the war. He took his diploma in December 1915 in Danzig. From 1916 to 1918 he worked under Friedrich Lahrs on the new building of the Königsberg Art Academy . In 1919 he passed the examination as a government master builder and then worked for the government in Königsberg until 1921 ,

From 1921 he worked as a government building officer with the government in Potsdam and was responsible for housing and settlement as well as urban development. On December 16, 1922, he became the first chairman of the non-profit civil servants' settlement association “Vaterland” in Potsdam and built two housing estates for it, one from 1923 to 1926 “Am Schragen”, west of the Russian colony , and a second from 1927 to 1931 on the eastern slope of the Ruins mountain near Sanssouci . On 27 February 1930 he was at the Technical University Berlin with a historical architectural work on the Castle Church (Kaliningrad) and its architect Johann Arnold Nering for Dr.-Ing. PhD. The reviewers were Daniel Krencker and Erich Blunck .

In May 1932 he was elected to Potsdam's city planning officer, took office in June 1932 and held this office until 1945. From 1936 to 1938 he built the Friedrichstadt estate on Schillerplatz. After 1945 chief architect at the Potsdam District Council , he played a key role in the reconstruction of Potsdam.
