Reisberg castle ruins

The castle ruin Reisberg is the ruin of a hilltop castle in the town of the same name Reisberg near Wolfsberg in Carinthia . In 1194 a "Walcher von Reisberg" is mentioned for the first time. In 1246, Eberhard II of Regensburg, as Archbishop of Salzburg, bought the Reisberg estate. In the list of Salzburg archbishops a " Johann II. Von Reisberg " appears (1429–1441). In 1480 it was captured by imperial troops. The last Salzburg nurse Hieronymus von Reisberg died in 1565 and is buried in St. Marein . Since then the castle has been left to decay, only the three-storey east wall towers above the church of Reisberg and can be seen as a prominent point from the Lavanttal towards the Saualpe .
