St. Marein (Wolfsberg municipality)

St. Marein is a village and a cadastral municipality in the Lavant Valley in Carinthia ( Austria ). Its population is 378. St. Marein belongs to the municipality of Wolfsberg and is about 4 kilometers south of it, near the southern motorway (A2) .

history

It is believed that there was a church in St. Marein as early as 888 , but it was not recorded until 1178. This original building fell victim to the Turks in 1480 and could only be rebuilt in 1499. The baroque interior of today's parish church dates from the 17th century.

In 1964, parts of the dissolved municipality of Pölling were awarded to the municipality of St. In 1973, the greater part of the community was incorporated into Wolfsberg, and a small part to St.Andrä.

In addition to a few smaller local companies, two larger companies have also settled north of the village in recent years. In this area there is also a driving safety system , which was built in 2009.

traffic

St. Marein is close to the Südautobahn (A2) and can be reached via the Wolfsberg Süd junction. The Packer road B70 runs just under 1 km east of the village.
