The Weißenau Castle stands west of St. Marein in the town of Wolfsberg in Carinthia .

history

Andreas Weiß had the castle built at the beginning of the 16th century. Around 1517 he was the caretaker at Twimberg Castle . From 1683 to 1687 the castle was owned by the bishop of Lavant Franz Caspar von Stadion. Hugo Graf Henckel von Donnersmarck acquired the residence in 1856 . His widow Laura, née von Kaszonyi, had the building redesigned in the style of romantic historicism from 1890 . The tower and library were built and the northeast wing renewed. The property has belonged to the Thun-Hohenstein family since 1919 .

The castle is a two-storey building enclosing a courtyard with three wings, the core of which dates from the 16th / 17th centuries. Century. The east tower is crowned with battlements. The facade is designed in the style of English Tudor Gothic . In the ballroom of the south-west wing there is baroque stucco on the ceiling and fireplace . The coat of arms of the Bishop of Stadion is attached to the mantelpiece.

The house chapel on the upper floor of the north-east wing is a flat-roofed, rectangular room with the original interior design that was uniformly designed around 1890 in neo-Gothic shapes.
