Sankt Michael im Lavanttal

St. Michael im Lavanttal is a village and a cadastral municipality with 538 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the municipality of Wolfsberg in Carinthia . St. Michael was an independent parish until 1973.

history

In the 1950s the municipalities of Lading and Aichberg were merged and in 1964 incorporated into St. Michael. On January 1, 1973, St. Michael was merged with six other rural communities and the city of Wolfsberg to form the large community of Wolfsberg.

Facilities

In the center of the village there is the parish church of St. Michael , the fire station and the retirement home, as well as several inns and a bakery. The seven-class elementary school and kindergarten are located a little north of the town center in the direction of Pollheim .

Volunteer firefighter

The St. Michael Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1902. Hydrophores and horse-drawn carts were used until the 1930s , before modern technology was introduced in 1936. Today the fire brigade is equipped with an RLFA 2000 and a small fire engine.
