Burgschänke Golden Lion
The Burgschänke "Goldener Löwe" is a historical building in Bad Düben that allegedly dates back to the 11th century and has had a restaurant privilege since 1647 .
history
Originally the first floor was a church dedicated to Saint Wenceslas . It was probably built in the 11th century in what was then the Suburbium , the first settlement of German craftsmen and traders, under the protection of Düben Castle . It was probably one of the first stone buildings in the entire region. In the course of the Reformation it was abandoned as a church. In 1647 the neighboring property was granted a restaurant privilege , for which the former church building was used. The building was damaged by the Düben town fire in 1716 and, when it was rebuilt, it received its present-day appearance with the top floor. Today the colloquial “Golden Lion” is operated as an inn and accommodation business.
