Postal is a living space within the boundaries of the Creglinger district Finsterlohr in Main-Tauber-Kreis in Franconia dominated northeastern Baden-Wuerttemberg .

geography

Burgstall is located in the area of a mountain peninsula on which there was a late Celtic refuge. This is cut off from the plateau in the north by the Tauber, in the southeast and west by gorges. The Fliehburg was surrounded all around by a fortification and on the southwest side, where it is connected to the plateau, protected by two moats, both with ramparts.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1318 as Burestal . The place name refers to a late Celtic refugee castle. The place once belonged to Hohenlohe-Brauneck and came with this rule in 1448/49 to Brandenburg-Ansbach. In 1791 Burgstall came to Prussia, 1806 to Bavaria and 1810 to Württemberg.

The place came as part of the formerly independent community Finsterlohr on February 1, 1972 to the city of Creglingen.

religion

A church of St. Margaret in the hamlet of Burgstall that was lost was possibly older than the church in Finsterlohr and possibly a former parish church. The patronage of St. Margaret is proven by the discovery of a seal from the pastor of Burgstall from the Romanesque period. Like Finsterlohr, the parish of Burgstall was once a branch of Leuzenbronn and was later incorporated into Finsterlohr.
