The Postal Waldenburg is an Outbound hilltop castle in the town of Waldenburg in the district of Freistadt of Upper Austria .

history

There is talk of a Waldburg farm in 1365 when Stephan von Harrach transferred a farm to the honorable servant Heinrich den Scheiber, Schaffer zu Freistadt. There is also the theory that the rule of Waldenfels could have been founded by the Waldburgers, who were Wallseer followers, after their own castle was destroyed in the 14th century.

The Waldburgers themselves are not to be found in any nobility lexicon, but a Hezilo von Waldburg in the Passau Urbar from the early 13th century is mentioned, other Waldburgers are Ortlieb de Waltpurch (1289), Ulrich der Walpurger (1297), Syghart and Ortel Walpurg ( 1309). Later Waldburgers were Ortwein (1337/1338 Burgrave of Waxenberg ) and his sons Purkhart († before 1383) and Ortwin Walpurger (the latter was the owner of Waldenfels). It is assumed that the Waldburgers were of free farming origin and that they might have served the Wallseern as clearing managers and then rose to the knightly petty nobility. These Waldburgers are not to be equated with the Swabian Waldburgers .

The substructure of the forest castle is located approx. 0.25 km southwest of the Bodenmühle and is still relatively well preserved. On display are two out of the rock-cut trenches ( moat with Schrämspuren ), and there is evidence of a solid construction. The slope to the Waldburger Bach is littered with stones. The property is not under monument protection.
