Burgstrasse 42 (Altstadtnest)

The house Burgstraße 42 is a listed building in the town of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt in the Harz district .

location

It is located on the southwest side of Burgstrasse below Wernigerode Castle in the old town of Wernigerode, not far from the Liebfrauenkirche , diagonally across from the Robert Koch Institute . The three-storey half-timbered building with two doors, two former shop windows and a two-lined gable facing the street stands out somewhat from the rest of the development.

Architecture and history

Today's building with courtyard and extension was built as a half-timbered house after the town fire of 1751 and was initially used as a home and workshop for a master goldsmith. Later residents at the end of the 19th century included the gunsmith Hermann Jung and, from 1896, the Wernigerode merchant Gustav Rose. In 2014, the building was completely renovated and converted into three holiday apartments under the name of Altstadtnest .
