Burgtheater Hohenegg
Under the name Burgtheater Hohenegg , a theater group in Hafnerbach in Lower Austria has been staging plays since 1977. The group consists of pure amateur actors with changing cast, the productions take place every 2 years (not always regularly). The Hohenegg Burgtheater is a section of the Hafnerbach Culture and Tourism Association, the venue has been the Hohenegg castle ruins since 1977 , initially as an open-air performance in the castle courtyard, and since 1985 in the renovated castle hall.
History of amateur theater in Hafnerbach
Drama has a tradition in Hafnerbach that goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. The "Gesang- und Musikverein Hafnerbach 1924" and also the "Katholische Deutschen Burschenverein", which was founded in 1924, played many plays (mostly with music), operettas and singing games from 1925 to 1937 . The original posters (1924, 1925, 1926, 1928, 1931 and 1934), orchestral sheet music for singspiele and operettas and many old role books still exist from this period. This is also documented by many old group photos, although not all of them can be assigned to a specific piece. Presumably some of them also come from school events.
In 1947, after a forced break due to the war, a new interest group started acting with the play Das Bildstöckl . A year later, the people involved founded the “Kulturvereinigung der Dunkelsteiner”. In their statutes it is anchored that the theater in Hafnerbach should be an important focus of their tasks. Until 1975, the cultural association performed a total of 28 pieces at irregular intervals - with more or less success.
The Catholic youth began in 1950 with theater performances, initially in the parish garden, from 1957 in the Schramel guesthouse as well as the cultural association. She was very successful with 15 productions until 1974.
The Ländliches Fortbildungswerk (LFW), today the Lower Austrian Youth, also tried a theater production in 1976.
The founding of the Hohenegg Burgtheater
In 1977 the “Burgtheater Hohenegg” was formed from the three previous groups under the responsibility of the cultural association and open-air performances began on the Hohenegg castle ruins . In 1985 they moved to the newly created theater hall in the castle, where the theater performances have been taking place ever since. From 1947 until today over 60 theater productions with around 300 people - actors, stage technicians or directors - have been performed.
Walter Oezelt was mainly responsible for all productions from 1977 to 2011 as artistic director, director and actor. Then there were no productions for a few years. In 2015, Stefan Greimel took over the Burgtheater Hohenegg and preparations for the 2016 season began. Two weeks before the premiere of the play Under Bathrobes , a member of the ensemble suddenly died and the performances were canceled. In 2017, Bernd Spehling 's Crazy Have It Not Easy was a success with a sold out house.
With the change of directorship, the Burgtheater Hohenegg was reorganized. The result was a new homepage, through which tickets could be bought online for the first time. Artistically, one would like to concentrate more on comedies in the sense of a summer theater.
