Naugarten castle walls
The ramparts of Naugarten , a district of the municipality of Nordwestuckermark in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg , are located on the southern shore of Lake Naugarten. They consist of two well-known castles, the remains of which are still preserved: One of the castles is located as a rampart at the eastern entrance to the village on a field directly on the shore of Lake Naugarten. It was presumably created in the 7th to 10th century and listed under Niederungsburg Naugarten (catalog no. 808). The other castle complex (dated: 11th to 12th centuries) is located on the western edge of the village on the so-called Schloßberg and is called Höhenburg Naugarten (catalog no. 810).
The original place name of the settlement was "Novo Grad", which means something like "New Castle" in Slavic. It is not known which of the two castles the said new castle was.
