The Burgwallinsel in Kastorfer See is located in the municipality of Knorrendorf east of Kastorf in the Mecklenburg Lake District .

As archaeological research by Volker Schmidt at the end of the 1980s showed, there was a fortified island castle here in the Yugoslav period . The fortification consisted of a circumferential wall, which today, however, has largely been removed due to the earlier agricultural use of the site. Underwater investigations have shown that the island can be reached via two wooden bridges. One extended from the west bank of the lake to Burgwallinsel and another from there in the direction of the old Slavic castle complex to the eastern bank of the lake. A trade route at that time probably led through this area, because the finds from the excavations were very valuable. The excavator therefore suspected that the island castle represented a fortified market place.

In a document from 1249, the castle is referred to as the "old castle site" and should have been in desolation at this time. It is believed that the three castles on Kastorfer See represented the political and cultural center of the Tollensians .

There is an old legend about the island . As early as the Middle Ages, warnings were given against entering the island, as a white witch is supposed to be up to mischief there. Whoever disturbs them should feel their anger.
