Burk Uzzle (born August 4, 1938 in Raleigh , North Carolina , USA ) is an American photographer and former member of the renowned Magnum Photos photo agency .

Life

Burk Uzzle began working as a photojournalist for his home newspaper News and Observer in Raleigh in 1955 . From 1957 to 1962 he worked as a freelance photographer for the New York agency Star . From 1962 Uzzle took photos for Life magazine. In 1967 he left Life and became a full member of Magnum Photos' New York office . In 1970 he received the "Page One Award" from the News Papers Guild New York (New York Newspaper Publishers Association). From 1978 to mid-1980, Uzzle was President of Magnum . In 1982 he left the agency to devote himself entirely to his work as a freelance photographer and his own book projects.
