Remarks

The Polka Burschenwanderung exists in two versions: a version for male choir and a purely instrumental version. The composer wrote the choral version for a concert of the Academic Choral Society of Vienna Universities under the direction of Rudolf Weinwurm, who had previously also directed the Vienna Men's Choir. The text comes from August Seuffert and deals with the life of a Mr. von Rodenstein who died around 1500. After the Academic Choral Society dissolved soon afterwards, the work was no longer performed in the choral version for some time. It was later taken over by the Vienna Men's Choir in its repertoire and performed occasionally. Johann Strauss created a pure orchestral version of this choral piece. This was played for the first time on March 6, 1881 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein under the direction of Eduard Strauss .

The playing time of the orchestral version is 3 minutes and 46 seconds on the CD listed under itemization. The choir version 4 minutes and 39 seconds. These times may vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
