The Busan Transportation Corporation , BTC for short, 부산 교통 공사 in Korean , are the local public transport company for the city of Busan . The company was founded on January 1, 1981 as Busan Metropolitan Subway Construction .

Today it operates four subway lines with a total length of 167.18 kilometers, as well as 273 bus routes in and around Busan.

history

The transport company was founded on January 1, 1981 as Busan Metropolitan Subway Construction by the Busan City Council to build and then operate the subway lines. In 1985, the first metro line in Busan went into operation with Metro Line 1. In 2005, a law was repealed by the city of Busan, according to which the Busan Metropolitan Subway Construction would be responsible exclusively for the operation of the subway lines. On January 1st, 2006 the Busan Transportation Corporation was founded, which from now on operates subway and bus routes as well as taxis in Busans.

Due to the high volume of traffic in the city, the average speed of individual traffic is relatively low (26 km / h). Therefore, a fast and reliable local transport system should be built. Furthermore, Busan is on the way to further decentralize the city. Among other things, this is being done through the construction of satellite cities and several city centers in Busan itself. With the completion of Line 3, it was expected that the proportion of users of the subway would increase from 11.9% to 22.9%.

The planning for the construction of the first underground line began in 1979. The first construction activities took place in January 1981 and finally led to the start of operations in 1985. The network currently has 4 underground lines. The network is to get a fifth underground line in the coming years.

bus

The Busan Transportation Corporation operate a total of 132 Maeul (minibus) and 141 Shinae (city bus) lines. BTC owns around 3,088 buses for this purpose, including those purchased from Hyundai and Kia Motors . The special features of BTC include 6 City Tour -Buslinien (sightseeing lines), which they also operate.

Taxis

The BTC also operate their own fleet of city taxis in Busan, which can be used to get to places in Busan independently of the bus and subway.
