The Busan tram will be a new transportation system in Busan . The tram network will consist of two lines with a total of 32 stops. Further lines are planned in the future. The lines are to be operated with trams without overhead lines from Hyundai Rotem. The tram network is operated by Busan Transportation Corporation (BTC).

history

Situation before the first planning

Until the opening of the First Subway Line in 1985, Busan's transportation system consisted entirely of bus routes. With the opening of subway lines, the aim was to relieve the bus lines and the streets. Many parts of the city were connected to the transport network by expanding and reopening underground lines. Despite the many underground extensions that were made, road traffic could not be reduced overall.

First tram line plans (2013-2018)

Since the beginning of 2013, tram lines have been planned in cities with similar problems and the construction of tram lines has been decided to replace regular bus services with more environmentally friendly trams. Specific tram projects in Gyeonggi-do were approved in June 2018 .

In Busan, tramway projects were also developed in order to relieve and partly replace the regular bus traffic. At the beginning of 2019, the first two tram line projects for construction were approved by the Busan City Council. The city is also planning to add more lines to the network.

Opening of tram lines (from 2022)

The plan to build the new Oryukdo and Gangseo lines was approved. The Oryukdo line is to be completed in 2022, the Gangseo line is to be opened eight years later, in 2030. The Oryukdo line will initially be 1.9 km long and have 5 stops, later it will be expanded to 5.1 km and a total of 8 stops. The Gangseo line will be 21.3 km long and will serve 24 stops.

vehicles

The tram network is to be operated by overhead trams from Hyundai Rotem . Since 2010, the company has been developing tram models that, like buses in Germany, are charged at the end point and can travel the entire route without additional external energy supply.
