The Hyundai Rotem Company is a South Korean manufacturer of rail vehicles , battle tanks and production equipment . The company is a subsidiary of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and is headquartered in the Seocho-gu district of the capital Seoul . Due to the product range, mainly public and military clients are supplied. In 2009 the company employed 3,800 people, 700 of them in research and development.

history

The company was created in 1999 through the merger of the rail vehicle activities of Hanjin Heavy Industries , Daewoo Heavy Industries and Hyundai Precision & Industries under the name KOROS (Korea Rolling Stock Corporation). In 2002 the name was changed to Rotem Company and since 2007 the company has operated as the Hyundai Rotem Company .

With the in-house development KTX-II , Hyundai Rotem participates in tenders for the construction of high-speed trains in Brazil and the US state of California . Since business relationships already exist with the Southern California Rail Authority and Hyundai Motors' North American headquarters are in California, Hyundai Rotem is considered to be a promising bidder there.
