The Metro Adana ( Turkish Adana Metrosu , short Metro) in the southern Turkish city of Adana consists of a line that was put into operation in 2010.
Development of the Metro Project
In 1988, at the initiative of the city administration, the Ministry of Transport in Ankara examined the extent to which a metro route through the growing metropolis could be built. In 1996 the project planning at the ministerial level was completed and a contract was signed with Adtranz- Alarko-ABB Electric for the construction. In 1999 the construction of the line started. On May 14, 2010, the metro started operations.
Extension standard
The route is completely separated from road and rail traffic, ie it does not intersect with other traffic and runs along its entire route on a specially fortified structure. It is therefore not a light rail , but a 'real' subway . Nevertheless, due to the tram-like vehicles and the overhead line operation, it is referred to as 'Hafif-Metro', i.e. 'Leicht U-Bahn', which in German roughly means light rail.

Route
The route runs under the Turgut-Özal -Boulevard, turns south after the Anadolu Lisesi station and follows the Alparslan-Türkeş Boulevard. She crosses the railway line at the town hall and arrives in South Adana, where she crosses the D-400 expressway. It then crosses the Seyhan River north of the Regülatör Bridge and runs again north of the D-400, where it ends at the Yüreğir bus station.
Vehicles and gauge
The gauge of the metro tracks is 1435 mm (standard gauge). Vehicles from the manufacturer Bombardier Sweden operate on the metro line . The company was also responsible for the entire technology, signaling the route and the communication system.
Tickets and operating times
The metro runs for around 15 hours a day. The first trains leave the two terminal stations at 6:15 a.m. The last trains leave the terminus at 9 p.m. It is driven every 15 minutes. The fare (one-way ticket 0.75 TL ) can be paid with electronically readable pre-paid cards. These cards, which are available at sales outlets and machines , are read by sensors on the ticket barriers .
operator
The metro is operated by the Adana City Council, which also maintains the city's bus network. In the catchment area of the route, the latter has a feeder and fine distribution function to the subway or away from the line.
extension
In the next few years, the Adana Metro is to be extended by 9.5 km from its southeastern terminus to the campus of Çukurova University in northeast Adana. The expansion would add seven stations to the existing structure. The line would then pass through the city in a U-shape and intersect with the railway line of the Turkish state railway TCDD at the lower end of the Us, which had been upgraded to S-Bahn standard up to that point . The exact dates for the expansion have not yet been determined.
