Business @ school
business @ school is an annual competition of the Boston Consulting Group , in which students from all over Germany take part. The aim is to impart economic basics. The students develop a. your own business idea and present it to a jury. Every year around 1,500 high school students from 90 schools take part in business @ school.
The competition
Schools from Germany, Austria , Italy , Switzerland and the USA take part in the competition. The students receive support from over 500 supervisors and the partner companies of the Boston Consulting Group.
The competition consists of three phases. Phase I and II take place exclusively at the respective school of the participants. With phase III, a school winner is announced who will then take part in the competition nationwide.
Phase I.
In phase I, the students analyze a listed company . A presentation is made on a specific key question and presented to a jury at the end. The jury then asks critical questions, which the students answer. A winner is usually also chosen, but this is not relevant to participate in the further phases.
Phase II
In phase II the students deal with analyzing a regional company. Local companies in the region are asked about this and another presentation is created based on a key question. This will be presented again to a jury. Here, too, there is another question and answer session, the result is still not relevant for the competition.
Phase III
Phase III is the most important phase at business @ school. Here the students develop their own business idea and write a business plan for it. Here you have to cooperate with real companies and collect evidence of the feasibility of your project. The project remains fictional. After the students have again given a presentation and defended their business idea in front of a jury in the question and answer session, a school winner is determined. This then takes part in the state finals. If this is also won, the team takes part in the national finals in Munich and thus has the chance of a Germany-wide victory.
history
The competition was held for the first time in 1998. First two schools served the pilot project . 90 schools now take part in the competition every year.
During the corona pandemic, the state decisions and the federal final in Munich were exclusively digital. For the first time in the history of the competition there was also a public viewing at the schools where a meeting was possible again.
