The Louise-Henriette-Gymnasium (short: LHG ) is a high school in Oranienburg, Brandenburg and, like the city, was named after Luise Henriette von Oranien .

history

Since the capacity of the Runge grammar school was no longer sufficient, the Oberhavel district decided in March 1993 to set up a second grammar school in the city. For this, the headquarters of the Soviet garrison should be renovated. Before its history as a staff building, the house was used as a school. From 1938 to 1945 it housed the Hans Schemm elementary school , which was destroyed in a bombing raid by the American Air Force on March 15, 1945, killing the teachers and students in the air raid shelter.

On August 22, 1994, school operations began with 423 students in 16 classes with 26 teachers. Grades 8 to 11 switched from the Runge Gymnasium to the new Gymnasium. The building was officially inaugurated on September 30, 1994 for an open day. In addition to 27 class and course rooms, a lecture hall, five specialist cabinets and the corresponding preparation rooms, the building offers a foyer, cafeteria, auditorium, administration rooms and teachers' rooms.

At the time of opening, the school was simply called “Neues Gymnasium”. The name Louise-Henriette-Gymnasium in the French spelling was only given on September 29, 1995, after a survey of students in the city.

In 1998 the building was expanded to include a three-field hall , in which not only physical education takes place, but also numerous concerts and events. Due to the structural conditions, it is possible to take the sports diploma.

Wolfgang Nitsch was the first headmaster until February 28, 2003. From 2003 to 2013 Doris Elert was the head of the grammar school. Gabriele Schiebe has been the headmaster since August 2013.

The first high school graduates established the tradition of planting roses in front of the grammar school after graduating from high school and gave the square its name "rose garden". In the center of the square, the memorial to the fallen soldiers of the First World War was restored to its original place.

Others

The following four foreign languages are taught at the LHG: English , French , Spanish and Latin .

The 10th grade of the school has an annual student exchange with a Dutch school in Rotterdam. There have also been exchanges with Poland , Russia and France .

Concerts

Since 2004, an annual benefit concert by the staff music corps of the Bundeswehr has been held in the school's Dreifelderhalle.

Every year the Christmas concert takes place on the Friday before the 3rd Advent, and the spring concert takes place in spring. The concert is organized and performed by the school. Only students from the school appear.
