Bus accident in Altlandsberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Altlandsberg bus accident occurred on November 30, 1999 near the small town of Altlandsberg in Brandenburg .

the accident

During a regular line trip of bus number 931, it got off the road at 13:05 and hit a tree on the roadside at a speed of 83 km / h. The front of the bus was destroyed and the side was badly damaged by the force of the impact. Four students and the bus driver died in the accident. Twenty-two people were also injured, some seriously.

root cause

The cause of the accident was found to be a driving error by the 61-year-old bus driver, who was presumably distracted due to two scrambling students. It remains unclear whether a student was largely responsible for the bus driver's driving error by accidentally unlocking a lever on the driver's seat.

Consequences

In response to the bus accident in 2000, Oberhavel Verkehrsgesellschaft experimentally fitted one of its buses with surveillance cameras . If necessary, the recordings should be evaluated if there were scuffles among the students or the driver being harassed on the bus. Also in the district Oder-Spree which was a pilot project implemented.

To accidents in Altlandsberg in future prevent to, was established in 2005 a "bus school" for first graders by the police in Upper Havel and called the Upper Havel transport company to life. As part of this bus school, the children should learn how to behave correctly on the bus and at bus stops.
