The Lebanese-East Timorese relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between East Timor and Lebanon .

history

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and East Timorese President José Ramos-Horta visited the East Timorese Honorary Consul Joseph Issa privately in Lebanon in 2009 and met Lebanon's President Michel Sulaiman , Prime Minister Fuad Siniora and Parliament President Nabih Berri .

In 2008, 2009 and 2011 delegations, including with Lebanese business people, under the leadership of Honorary Consul Issa visited East Timor.

In May 2011, East Timor's Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa visited Lebanon. He met his counterpart Ali al-Sham , President Michel Sulaiman and Michael Williams , the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon.

Together with the Portuguese contingent, 14 officers of the East Timorese Defense Forces were deployed to the UN mission in Lebanon UNIFIL from November 2011 . It was the first time that the Southeast Asian country took part in UN missions.

After the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020, the East Timorese government expressed its solidarity with Lebanon. East Timor's honorary consulate in Beirut was also damaged in the explosion.

diplomacy

Lebanon does not have a diplomatic mission in East Timor. The Lebanese embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, is responsible . Mona El Tannir has been the ambassador here since 2018 .

East Timor has an honorary consul in Beirut, Joseph Issa . The consulate is located at 136 Allenby Street. The consulate was established in 2005. Issa also represented East Timor on various occasions in the Middle East. It is responsible for Qatar , Egypt , the United Arab Emirates and Syria .

In June 2009 Issa attended the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Organization (IRENA) in Sharm El Sheikh . In July, he accompanied Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa at the 15th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement in Sharm El Sheikh. In 2011 Issa represented East Timor at the second meeting of the participating states of the Convention on Cluster Munitions in Beirut and in 2013 in Paris when declaring East Timor to participate in Expo 2020 in Dubai . Issa became the General Commissioner of East Timor for Dubai Expo 2020.

In 2016 and 2018 Issa accompanied the former President Ramos-Horta on his visit by Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan to Amman .

The East Timor Statistical Office does not indicate any trade relations between East Timor and Lebanon for 2018 .
