history

The Tetum , the largest ethnic group of East Timor, who wandered according to their own traditions in the 14th century of Malacca off after Timor one. Malay was an important lingua franca in Timor until the 19th century, so place names in East Timor can also be found from this origin.

While Malaysia supported Indonesia in 1975 at the United Nations in the discussion of the Indonesian occupation of East Timor, the kingdom provided a large proportion of the contingent of soldiers and police officers in the UN missions between 1999 and 2012. Lieutenant General Khairuddin Mat Yusof from Malaysia was the military commander of the United Nations support mission in East Timor (UNMISET) from August 2003 to May 2005. The non-governmental organizations East Timor Information Network and Solidaritas Timor Timur - Malaysia were also set up to support East Timor during the Indonesian occupation .

Malaysia is a member of ASEAN , which East Timor wants to join.

Goods valued at US $ 12,837,000 came to East Timor from Malaysia in 2018. This puts Brazil in 8th place among the trading partners of East Timor. Goods worth 63,000 US dollars went to Malaysia from East Timor, making Malaysia 19th among the target countries. Coffee played a subordinate role here. There were also re-exports from East Timor to Malaysia totaling 639,000 US dollars (5th place).

For East Timorese there is no visa in Malaysia.
