Israel and East Timor have friendly relations .

history

After East Timor's final independence on May 20, 2002, mutual recognition took place on August 29, 2002. On March 1, 2004, East Timor also established diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Territories .

In 2011, East Timor’s President José Ramos-Horta visited Israel and met Israel’s President Shimon Peres . He campaigned for support in the areas of agriculture and maritime security. At the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , Ramos-Horta gave a lecture on “Peacebuilding, State Building and Reconciliation: Experiences and Perspectives”. Ramos-Horta also visited the Palestinian Territories and spoke to their representatives.

At the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in 2013, East Timor’s President Taur Matan Ruak declared his support for the right of the peoples of Palestine and Israel to live side by side in peace, dignity and security, and welcomed the resumption of direct talks leading to the creation of two sovereigns States should lead.

The representative of East Timor was not present at the vote on resolution A / ES-10 / L.22 of the UN General Assembly on the status of the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

diplomacy

Israel's ambassador to Singapore is also accredited for East Timor. The first Israeli ambassador, Itzhak Shoham, handed over his accreditation on August 29, 2002. In 2013, the current ambassador, Yael Rubinstein, took over the post.

economy

For 2018, the East Timor Statistics Office does not indicate any trade relations between East Timor and Israel.

Development Assistance

Israel and East Timor worked together on agriculture from 2015 to 2017. During this time, East Timorese students were trained by the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Members of the Defense Forces of East Timor (F-FDTL) also completed training seminars in Israel.
