The relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Israel are good. As two countries surrounded by enemies, they have developed an intensive cooperation since 1992. This cooperation is - as Azerbaijani President İlham Əliyev is quoted - like an iceberg, namely nine tenths of it is under the surface. The good relations with Israel give the Azerbaijani government the opportunity to demonstrate its orientation towards the West.

The reciprocal exports in 1997 amounted to two million US dollars. In 2004 the volume increased to 323 million US dollars.

Israel is the second largest buyer of Azerbaijani oil, which is exported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline ; in 2011 Azerbaijan delivered 2.5 million tons. For Israel, Azerbaijan is the second most important supplier of oil after Russia and the most important trading partner from the Muslim world. In return, Azerbaijan imports numerous Israeli industrial products. It is also a buyer of Israeli armaments, in 2012 the two states signed a contract for the supply of military equipment worth 1.6 billion US dollars (drones, missile defense).

Azerbaijani-Israeli cooperation is putting pressure on Azerbaijan's relations with its neighbor Iran . Iranian authorities have repeatedly alleged that Mossad agents entered Iran through Azerbaijan and that Azerbaijan had offered the Israeli Air Force its airfields to attack facilities of the Iranian nuclear program . This is despite the fact that Azerbaijan has passed a law prohibiting the stationing of foreign troops on its territory.

On November 14, 2018, George Deek was appointed the new Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan. He is the first Christian Arab to represent the State of Israel as an ambassador.
