Butenolide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2-furanone, the simplest butenolide

As butenolides refers to a group of substances in organic chemistry. More precisely, it is unsaturated lactones that are derivatives of butenic acid . Butenolides contain a dihydrofuran-2-one group and can therefore also be referred to as furan-2 (5 H ) -ones. The main body is 2-butene-4-olide .

The best-known butenolides are ascorbic acid and cardenolides , which come from plants. Others are e.g. B. Variegat acid and other pigments from mushrooms , patulin , penicillic acid , tetronic acids , which occur in fungi and lichens, and pigments ( Monascorubrin , Rubropunctatin ) from Monascus species.
