Butha-buthe
Butha-Buthe (also Botha-Bothe ) is the capital of the Butha-Buthe district in northern Lesotho .
history
The city was founded in 1884. The city owes its name to the Butha-Buthe mountain in the north. Butha-Buthe comes from Sesotho and means place of laying down . The Butha Buthe Mountain was used by King Moshoeshoe I as a fortress during the war with the Zulu King Shaka until 1824 . In 2016 the city had 35,108 inhabitants.
Infrastructure
Today Butha-Buthe is a regional center with shops, markets, petrol stations, banks and a hospital.
traffic
Butha-Buthe is at the northern end of North One, the main road connection to the north of the country from the capital Maseru . The place is also the starting point for the pass road to Oxbow (with ski area), Mokhotlong and the Sanipass .
Religions
In addition to some churches, Butha-Buthe has the only mosque in Lesotho.
