history

In December 2009, the Gold Coast Bulletin published a report on the novelties of the regional theme parks, according to which Dreamworld was negotiating with a manufacturer about the expansion of its roller coaster range. In February 2011, the operator of Dreamworld, Ardent Leisure , announced that the park would open two new rides in 2011 to mark its 30th anniversary. In April it became known that in addition to the family-friendly Disk'O "Shockwave" (which opened in June 2011), another large ride would be opened in September. The name "BuzzSaw" was confirmed two months later by outgoing CEO Noel Dempsey. Construction work started around the same time.

BuzzSaw was officially announced on July 20, 2011 , before the facility finally officially opened on September 17, 2011.

journey

Backstory

BuzzSaw tells the story of a series of inexplicable events in the Town of Gold Rush in the late 19th century. The fictional city was founded during the great gold rush in 1876. Eleven years later, in 1887, the gold deposits were exhausted, whereupon a sawmill was built and the focus was now on wood. On a clear, moonlit night, Jack Darke, an employee of the sawmill, was killed by the circular saw after an argument with other employees who tried to set the plant on fire. After many residents met his ghost at night, the sawmill was closed.

station

The entrance of BuzzSaw is located in the subject area Town of Gold Rush against the Wild Mouse "Eureka Mountain Mine Ride", but which is no longer in operation. The station building is themed as an abandoned sawmill from the Town of Gold Rush and tells the story of Jack Darke. In the waiting area there are numerous screens set into the walls showing burning wood. The waiting visitors are filled with the sound of a circular saw and warnings not to go any further and to flee while it is still possible.

Course of the journey

After the train has been released by the park staff, it is pulled by the vertical chain lift to a height of 46 meters. Once at the top, it slowly glides into the Heartline-Roll and descends vertically, whereupon it reaches its maximum speed of 105 km / h and drives through the station again. The train then travels back and forth between the two departures a few more times before it is locked into the chain of the lift and guided into the station in a controlled manner.

The journey takes about 50 seconds.

technology

train

an eponymous circular saw

BuzzSaw has an "X-Car" train from the manufacturer Maurer. It consists of two cars, each with three rows for two people, so that the train can hold twelve passengers. Lap bars are used as a restraint system.

rail

The steel-made, red-painted rail by BuzzSaw is 150 meters long and reaches a height of 46 meters at its highest point, the heartline roll. The maximum incline is 90 degrees.

reception

BuzzSaw received mostly positive reviews from critics. Melinda Siegmeier of the Gold Coast Bulletin said that “Scream Machine” is a fitting name for the newest ride in Dreamworld. Referring to the chain lift, she said: "[...] at this point, however, I wish I were back on the ground."

The operator of Dreamworld, Ardent Leisure , described the ride as a complete success. In the first year, over 435,000 people took the train. In the roller coaster ranking Best Roller Coaster Poll 2012 , BuzzSaw, together with identical systems, only placed 221 out of 365.
