Bvumba (also Vumba ; English also Bvumba Mountains , Portuguese Monte Vumba ) is a mountain region in the province of Manicaland in eastern Zimbabwe and in the province of Manica in Mozambique . It is only a little southeast of Mutare .

The name comes from the Shona word for "haze". The highest point is Castle Beacon in Zimbabwe , at 1911 meters above sea level . The area is characterized by wooded heights and deep, often mist-shrouded valleys. It consists mostly of granite . The mean annual precipitation is 1800 to 2000 millimeters.

In the center are the Bunga Forest Botanical Reserve and the Vumba Botanical Garden . There are numerous myths about the mountain Leopard Rock . Bvumba is important for tourism. Together with the Chimanimani mountain range and Nyanga National Park, it forms the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe. The Chinhamapere mountain on the Mozambican side has valuable rock paintings by hunters and gatherers , so that Mozambique applied for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008 .
