Nyanga National Park is a national park in the eastern highlands of Manicaland Province in Zimbabwe . It is located about 105 km north of Mutare . Originally placed under protection as Rhodes Inyanga National Park , one of the oldest national parks in Zimbabwe, the size and layout of the park have been changed several times. At the end of the last century, its size was almost doubled.

The park has an area of 47,000 hectares and is located at altitudes between 1,800 and 2,593 meters. The landscape looks more alpine than tropical; Summer temperatures reach 26 degrees Celsius, in winter they drop to -3 degrees.

Its attractions are the mountain landscape with the 2600 m peak of Inyangani , the highest mountain in Zimbabwe, many waterfalls, etc. a. those of the Pungwe River with the 760 m high Mutarazi Falls , officially the sixth highest on earth, and the Nyangobe Falls .

These mountains, together with those of Chimanimani and those of Bvumba, separate the highlands of Zimbabwe from the Mozambican lowlands. The park includes some relics from the Stone Age such as moats, stone castles, terraces and paths.

Wildlife

Animals such as waterbuck , wildebeest , zebras , impala and eland can be found in the national park . In terms of predators, the leopard and the hyena should be mentioned in particular . Lions and Cape buffalo occasionally move to the area from the lowlands of Mozambique .

A part of the area is considered an Important Bird Area because of its importance for the bird world . As a globally endangered species of this area are the Taitafalke , the wattled crane , the Pallid Harrier and the Blue Swallow (Hirundo atrocaerulea) was established. Other notable species are the striped rail and Robert's spine .
