The Alliance Development Helps - Together for People in Need eV is an association based in Aachen . Nine German aid organizations Bread for the World , Christoffel-Blindenmission , Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberculosehilfe , Kindernothilfe , medico international , Misereor , Plan International , terre des hommes , Welthungerhilfe are members of the association founded in early 2005 (after the earthquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004 ). Associated members are German Doctors and Oxfam Germany . In the event of disasters, including after the earthquake in Nepal in 2015 or after Hurricane Matthew , which destroyed parts of Haiti on October 4, 2016, the alliance calls for donations. In addition, the association would like to draw attention to development policy challenges, promote realistic reporting on disasters and sensitize the public to the complex causes of crises and disasters.

Activities abroad

The members have been working with partners from the countries of the Global South for many years. According to the maxim `` development helps and is the best prevention '' , the alliance works after disasters to regain an independent means of nutrition and livelihood, to build sustainable health and educational structures and thus to regain the independence of affected population groups. Larger natural events have particularly serious consequences when people are weakened and defenseless due to precarious living conditions, for example due to an insecure living situation, food insecurity, inadequate medical care or a lack of opportunities to participate. That is why the alliance also deals with the socio-political and socio-economic conditions that lead to disasters and advocates measures that enable long-term change.

Domestic activities

The alliance takes a critical look at international development policy and points out obstacles to development and the specific need for action. It follows the code for development-related public relations work of the Association for Development Policy and Humanitarian Aid of German NGOs .

WorldRiskReport

In cooperation with the Institute for Environment and Human Security at the University of the United Nations , the alliance has been publishing the WorldRiskReport annually since 2011 . The central element of this publication is the WorldRiskIndex. It depicts the disaster risk for 173 countries. The WorldRiskReport tries to show why crises turn into disasters, which hurdles have to be overcome in development cooperation and where a sustainable development policy aimed at long-term improvements could start. Complex problem areas can be analyzed through an interdisciplinary orientation and cooperation between renowned scientists and country officers, project managers or other employees from the member organizations who have in-depth experience.

financing

Administrative costs and public relations are financed by contributions from the member organizations. 100 percent of donations are forwarded to the member organizations. The alliance publishes details on the use of the funds in its annual report, which is also published online. All organizations of the alliance and the alliance itself have been awarded the DZI donation seal .
