Railway depot Kreuzberg

The Bahnbetriebswerk (Bw) Kreuzberg is located in the Kreuzberg district of the Altenahr community . It connects to the Kreuzberg (Ahr) train station and was in operation from 1918 to 1987 . Today it is very much in danger of being demolished.
history
The Kreuzberg (Ahr) depot was built around 1918, while the First World War was still in progress. For military reasons, too, a two-track Ruhr-Moselle relief line was under construction, which was to lead from Holzheim (near Neuss) via Rommerskirchen , Horrem, Mödrath, Liblar, Rheinbach and Ringen and to flow into the Lower Ahr Valley Railway at the Abzw Rech .
Operating facilities
With a hub diameter of 20 meters, the railway depot was designed for the then largest freight locomotive and had a nine stalls comprehensive roundhouse . The track systems of the Bw connected on both sides had a correspondingly large scope, at the strongest point there were 14 tracks next to each other. The turntable has been dismantled by the DB, a water crane and a coal crane are being refurbished in the museum.
