Bwiam General Hospital

The Bwiam General Hospital (until 2017: Sulayman Jungkung [Jammeh] General Hospital , or Jemus Junkung Hospital ) is a state hospital in the West African state of Gambia . It is located in the east of the West Coast region , on the eastern edge of the town of Bwiam, which has around 3000 inhabitants .

The hospital was built with a grant of 30 million dalasi (around 0.9 million euros) from Libya . It started operations in June 2002 and is considered the most modern hospital in the country and one of the largest supply facilities. In 2004 it was expanded to include a dental department. With a capacity of 200 beds and around 200 employees, it ensures medical care in the rural region as far as the neighboring country of Senegal .

The building complex is located on an approximately 85,000 m² site directly on South Bank Road , Gambia's most important trunk road. The hospital was named after the father of former President Yahya Jammeh , Sulayman Jungkung Jammeh.

In May 2017, under the Adama Barrow government, Sulayman Jungkung General Hospital was renamed Bwiam General Hospital.
