A. Byron Beck (born January 25, 1945 in Ellensburg , Washington ) is a former American professional basketball player .

Career

The 2.06 meter center from the University of Denver was one of six players (along with Louie Dampier , Gerald Govan , Bob Netolický , Stew Johnson and Freddie Lewis ), who played in all nine seasons (1967-1976) of the professional basketball league ABA participated. He played for the Denver Rockets, the later Denver Nuggets ( NBA ). Beck was not particularly athletic, but he was a hard worker, known for tenacity and efficient hook throwing . He represented Denver at two All-Star Games (1969 and 1976).

Beck also played one season in the NBA with the Nuggets. He retired as a basketball player in 1977. In his career he scored a total of 8603 points and 5261 rebounds. On December 16, 1977, he became the first player in Denver whose jersey number (# 40) was withdrawn.
