history

The company has its origins in Bystronic Maschinen AG, which was founded in 1964. This specialized in the development, production and sale of system solutions for glass processing and began developing laser cutting systems in the early 1980s. This resulted in Bystronic Laser AG in 1986, which in the same year began producing and selling laser cutting systems and in 1989 the first water jet cutting systems.

In 1994 the company was taken over by the Zurich industrial group Conzzeta. With the acquisition of the Swiss company Hämmerle AG in 1997, Bystronic entered the bending machine sector (press brakes) for the first time.

In 2002, the two business areas sheet metal processing (Bystronic) and systems for glass processing (Bystronic glass) were legally separated and have since formed two separate business areas within the Conzzeta Group. In the same year, the product range in the bending area was expanded with the takeover of the Beyeler Group with its production site in Gotha (Germany). With the takeover of AFM Fabtek in Tianjin, Bystronic gained a production site in China in 2002.

In Asia, Europe and America, Bystronic has been expanding its network of sales and service companies from the beginning of the 2000s: in 2001 branches were opened in Mexico and Spain, in 2002 in Brazil and Austria, 2003 in Holland, 2005 in Great Britain and Ukraine, 2006 in Poland, 2007 in the Czech Republic and Turkey, 2008 in Russia, 2009 in Romania and 2011 in Taiwan.

In 2016, Bystronic acquired a stake in the Chinese company DNE Laser in Shenzhen (China). Since it was founded in 2008, the company has specialized in the development and production of fiber and disk lasers in the mid-market segment. With the takeover of the Swiss company FMG in 2016, Bystronic expanded its technology offering to include integrated high-bay warehouses and handling systems for sheet metal processing. In the same year, Bystronic founds new branches in Japan, Australia and Hungary.

In 2017, Bystronic and the Italian company TTM Laser entered into a strategic partnership. Bystronic expanded this partnership in 2018 with the complete takeover of the specialist for laser-assisted tube and profile processing.
