Cândida Silva

Cândida Celeste da Silva is an Angolan politician from the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA).

Life

After studying, Cândida Celeste da Silva worked as a teacher at primary schools in the province of Bié and the province of Benguela between 1970 and 1980 . Then she began her political career during this time for the then unity party Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA), which she represented between 1980 and 1986 as a member of the People's Assembly (Assembleia do Povo) of the province of Bié. Her main job was from 1980 to 1983 as head of the regular teaching section of the school authority in the province of Bié and subsequently from 1983 to 1999 secretary of the MPLA women's organization OMA (Organização da Mulher Angolana) in the province of Bié. During the tenure of President José Eduardo dos Santos , she became Minister for Family and Women’s Advancement (Minstra da Família e Promoção da Mulher) in 1999 and held this ministerial office between 6 December 2002 and 30 September 2008 in the cabinet of Prime Minister Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos . She then acted as governor of the Bié province between 2008 and 2012 and was also governor of the Namibe province from 2008 to 2012 . She was also the First Secretary of the MPLA Committee of the Namibe Province.

In the election of December 31, 2012 , Cândida Silva was elected for the first time a member of the National Assembly (Assembleia Nacional) on the country list of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) . In the legislative period from 2012 to 2017 she acted as president of the women's group of parliamentarians. After her re-election in the election on August 23, 2017 , she became a member of the 8th Parliamentary Commission (8th Comissão: Família, Infância e Acção Social) , which is responsible for family, childhood and social action.

Cândida Celeste da Silva is also a member of the Central Committee of the MPLA. She is also a member of the national committee of the women's organization OMA
