The Cäcilienpark is a district park in the Leipzig district of Reudnitz .

Location and layout

The Cäcilienpark is a north-south-running rectangle that - starting in the north - is bounded by the streets Mühl-, Oswald-, Witzgall- and Cäcilienstraße, whereby a private parking lot is connected to Mühlstraße in the north. On the east and west side there are prefabricated buildings from the GDR era, in the north there is the area of ​​the Reudnitz brewery and in the south there is a triangular square surrounded by almost 100 year old horse chestnuts .

Of the 6200 m² of the park, 3600 m² are open meadow areas in the northern part. The rest is made up of bushes and trees. Of the few old trees, three tall common ash trees from 1950 are particularly striking. 62 young trees were planted in the creation of the park. Among them are eleven species with between one and fourteen specimens each. The single specimen is a hop beech , for which the brewery has taken over the sponsorship, the most common type is field maple . There are benches and small play equipment along the paths.

history

In the 19th century, the area between Cäcilienstrasse and Oswaldstrasse - at that time still Dorotheen- and Albertstrasse - was built on with houses in the northern part (Neureudnitz). Although it was only partially destroyed in the Second World War , the dilapidated substance of the Wilhelminian-style buildings south of Mühlstrasse was torn down before the prefabricated buildings were erected between 1988 and 1990 . Between Cäcilienstrasse and Oswaldstrasse there remained a fallow land with beaten paths and some private garages.

The plans for the construction of a district park were presented on March 13, 2017, construction work began in August and the park was handed over on May 29, 2018.
