César Bernal

César Bernal (* 1935 or 1936 ; † March 6, 2015 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan pelota player .

"Perro" Bernal, who together with Néstor Iroldi , who was around twelve years his junior, formed the most successful Uruguayan doubles in history and remained undefeated with them from 1964 to 1974, first took part in the 1966 World Cup, which was held in Montevideo that year . There he won the title with Iroldi in front of the second-placed Argentines A. Sether and R. Bizzocero. Again he and his partner were world champions in 1970 and 1978. In 1974 he took second place with Iroldi behind the Argentines J. Utge and R. Bizzozero. In 1980 and 1981 he won the so-called "Mundialitos". In the demonstration competitions of the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico , he also won the bronze medal with Iroldi. In 1986 he again reached the World Cup final in Vitoria , Spain , in which he was defeated and had to be satisfied with the silver medal behind the Argentines Elortuondo and Irigoitia. Then he ended his career.

Bernal died at the age of 79.
