Career

Anna Weidel made her international debut at the Junior World Championships 2014 in Presque Isle , where she won the silver medal in the sprint and in the pursuit, and came sixth in the individual race. Because of her achievements, she was already classified in the C national squad. At the end of 2014 , Weidel made his debut in a sprint race in Obertilliach in the IBU Cup and immediately won points as 31st. In the second race in Duszniki-Zdrój she just missed the top 10 places as 12th in a sprint. In the second sprint in the same place, she was 28th. During the 13th World Team Challenge at Schalke, Anna Weidel won the junior competition alongside Marco Groß . At the Junior World Championships 2015 in Minsk - Raubitschy , she started with the juniors for the first time, but was unable to match the previous year's results in the individual disciplines. The best result was a 19th place in the individual. In the season she won the bronze medal behind France and Russia with Marie Heinrich and Helene-Therese Hendel . In the same year she won, this time together with Dominic Reiter , the German Team Challenge at Schalke. In 2016 in Pokljuka at the Junior European Championships a tenth place in the individual was the only top ten placement.

For the 2016/17 season she won the individual title in the IBU Junior Cup, the junior competition series, the pursuit in Hochfilzen and the European Junior Championships in Nové Město na Moravě, and after 23rd place in the sprint, she was eighth in the pursuit race. At the Junior World Championships 2017 in Osrblie , Weidel won the bronze medal in the individual behind Megan Bankes and Julia Schwaiger , was 12th in the sprint and, fourth in the pursuit, missed a second medal, which she then won with Vanessa Voigt and Sophia Schneider with silver behind Norway in the relay race . In addition, Weidel secured victory in the pursuit and individual rankings in the IBU Junior Cup and was fifth overall in this series of competitions. Because of these strong performances, Weidel was used again in the IBU Cup in Kontiolahti at the beginning of March . Here, too, she showed strong performances and was fourth in the sprint. She won the pursuit race that followed ahead of Wiktorija Sliwko and Uljana Kaischewa and thus celebrated her first IBU Cup victory.

After good results in the first two sprint races of the IBU Cup 2018/19 , she was nominated for the first World Cup races of winter 2018/19 . In her first World Cup race, the individual competition over 15 km on the Pokljuka , Weidel achieved 66th place with four shooting errors and thus four penalty minutes. Thanks to faultless shooting, she achieved her first top ten place in the sprint the next day with tenth place. She came eleventh in the persecution that followed. At the following World Cups in Hochfilzen and Oberhof she was unable to build on these results and only competed in races in the second-class IBU Cup until the end of the season. There, in addition to a tenth place at the Biathlon European Championships in Minsk in 2019 and a race win in the super sprint in Otepää, she only achieved placements outside the top 10.
