Vanessa Voigt (born October 7, 1997 in Schmalkalden ) is a German biathlete .

Family and origin

Vanessa Voigt comes from Seligenthal , and the former biathlete Sven Fischer also lives in the vicinity of her parents' house . Voigt has two brothers.

Career

Vanessa Voigt started cross-country skiing at the age of eight, in 2010 she moved to the Oberhof sports high school because of the better training conditions. In 2013 she made her first attempts with a biathlon weapon in order to fulfill the long-cherished childhood dream of biathlon and because "just running and counting trees" became too boring for her. In winter 2015/16 she won the overall ranking of the German Cup in her age group.

Voigt competed in her first international races in December 2016 as part of the IBU Junior Cup 2016/17 , in the second race of the season in Lenzerheide she achieved her first podium finish with third place. This was followed by a second place - together with Christin Maier and Anna Weidel - in the relay race of Hochfilzen and a second place in the relay race of the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2017 in Brezno - Osrblie on the side of Sophia Schneider and Anna Weidel. The following two years she also ran in the IBU Junior Cup and again achieved second place in the sprint in Obertilliach in December 2017 . Out of her junior age, she contested her first IBU Cup races in winter 2019/20 . In January 2020, she achieved her first podium finish in the sprint in Brezno-Orsblie with a third place. Also in Brezno-Osrblie, she finished second in the mixed relay three days later, together with Lucas Fratzscher , Florian Hollandt and Franziska Hildebrand . As the final runner of the team, with faultless shooting and a fast running time, Voigt was able to significantly shorten the gap of 41 seconds on the victorious team from Russia and reached the goal just 2.6 seconds after the winners. During the season she reached several top 10 placements. She also took part in the 2020 European Biathlon Championships in Minsk , where her best placement was a 13th place in the mixed relay race.
