Megan Bankes (born August 22, 1997 in Calgary , Canada ) is a Canadian biathlete .

Megan Bankes is from Calgary , but now lives and trains in Canmore, not far away . She started cross-country skiing at the age of three, but looked for new challenges at the age of eleven and decided to take up biathlon and joined the Race Bears youth development program of her home club, Foothills Nordic . Since then she has participated in regional, national and international competitions. In her free time she helps train the youngsters.

She made her international debut on February 28, 2014 at the Biathlon Youth World Championships in Presque Isle (Maine) , USA , and her best placement was a 42nd place in an individual competition. She contested her first race in the IBU Cup at the end of the 2015/16 season , in this individual race she also finished 42nd. She was much more successful the next winter when she took part in the 2017 Biathlon Junior European Championships in Nové Město na Moravě in the Czech Republic . After a disappointing 69th place in the individual competition, she finished 7th in the sprint and was able to work her way up to 2nd place in the pursuit race behind Czech Markéta Davidová. At the Biathlon Junior World Championships 2017 in Brezno - Osrblie , unlike at the European Championships - she remained flawless in the individual competition and won the race with a clear lead over the Austrian Julia Schwaiger and the German Anna Weidel .

After her success at the European and World Championships, she was nominated for her first World Cup race , which she contested in Kontiolahti , Finland , in the winter of 2016/17 . She finished the sprint on rank 78, so she clearly missed the points and qualification for the pursuit race.
