Cícero Sandroni

Cícero Augusto Ribeiro Sandroni (born February 26, 1935 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian journalist . He is a writer and was President of the Brazilian Academy of Literature from 2007 to 2009 .

Life

In 1946 his parents moved with him from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, where he later studied journalism . From 1954 editor of various journals, he specialized in political journalism from 1958 at O Globo and then Diário de Notícias . In 1959 his translation of F. Fraser Bond's Introduction to Journalism appeared .

In 1961, at the invitation of the Mayor of Brasília , Paulo de Tarso Santos, he became press spokesman for the administration of the federal district of the capital Brasilia, and took over administrative tasks for Minister Franco Montoro and the government during the João Goulart government. Due to the coup of the Brazilian military in 1964, he lost his political offices, but was able to continue his journalistic work. Together with Pedro Penner he began publishing projects in the field of Latin American literature and the Nouveau Roman . In 1965 he resisted attempts by the dictatorship to influence his journalistic work and was co-founder and Brazilian representative of the international news agency Interpress Service (IPS). He continues to work for various journals, especially the Jornal do Brasil and the Jornal do Commercio, and is active as a publisher.

In 2011, Sandroni was a guest of the Latin America Institute of the Free University of Berlin with the lecture " Machado de Assis : Literature, Journalism and the Brazilian Academy of Literature" ("Machado de Assis: literatura, jornalismo ea Academia Brasileira de Letras").

Cícero Sandroni is married to the daughter of the writer and human rights activist Austregésilo de Athayde Laura Constância Austregésilo de Athayde Sandroni, with whom he has five children.

Honors

Cícero Sandroni was accepted into the Academia Brasileira de Letras, the Brazilian Academy of Literature in Rio de Janeiro on December 13, 2003. He is the sixth owner of the seat number 6 named after Casimiro de Abreu , succeeding Raimundo Faoro. From 2007 to 2009, Cícero Sandroni was the 48th president of the Academia Brasileira de Letras.

In 1974 Sandroni won the Esso Prize for Journalism, the Prêmio Esso .
