Cătălin George Hâldan (born February 3, 1976 in Bucharest , † October 5, 2000 in Oltenița , Călărași County ) was a Romanian football player . He completed a total of 138 games in the Divizia A . He was also part of the Romanian squad for the 2000 European Football Championship .

Career

Cătălin Hâldan started playing football at Dinamo Bucharest in 1986 at the age of 10 . There he went through the youth teams of all ages and was several times Romanian champion. At 18, he made his debut on October 2, 1994 at Dinamo losing to Steaua Bucharest in the Divizia A . During the same season he was loaned to the third division club Oțelul Târgovişte , with whom he rose to Divizia B a year later . Hâldan immediately returned to Dinamo Bucharest, where he often wore the armband in the following years. In 2000 he led Dinamo to a double: the club became Romanian champions and cup winners.

Hâldan played a total of 7 European Cup matches, all for Dinamo Bucharest.

National team

Hâldan completed 8 appearances for the Romanian national football team and scored one goal. His first use was on March 3, 1999 against Estonia . He was nominated by national coach Emerich Jenei for the European Football Championship 2000 , but was not used in a single game.

Hâldan also has 16 international appearances for the Romanian U21 national team.

death

Cătălin Hâldan collapsed on October 5, 2000 in the 72nd minute of the friendly game between Dinamo Bucharest and Navol Oltenița on the field. He died a short time later in the hospital where a heart attack was diagnosed. Since then , one of the stands of the Dinamo stadium has been named in his honor.
